Glorious sunshine blessed the 19th annual Seaside Pro/Am Golf event held last Friday at Bridlington Golf Club.
The day proved hugely successful and confirmed its reputation as the largest event of its kind in the North of England and the quality of the golf played was first class with some fine performances from both the 48 professionals and amateurs.
Organiser Anthony Howarth said: “The event was a resounding success and the icing on the cake was the glorious weather we experienced on the day.
“The weather is always a concern and with the recent heavy rain we have experienced we were certainly lucky to have near perfect summer conditions on the day.”
The event saw professionals from all over Yorkshire and further afield joining up with three amateurs for the team competition.
The Bridlington Free Press Trophy and a cheque for £1,200, presented to the leading professional, was won by former European Tour player James Hepworth of Ilkley Golf Club.
He shot a stunning course record-equalling 64 (eight-under-par) to win by a comfortable four shots from another former European Tour player Ben Mason, of Waterfront Golf, who shot a very impressive 68.
The keenly contested Lloyd Dowson Team Trophy was eventually won by the team from DC Robinson Builders from Cottingham Golf Club, consisting of Cottingham members M Broadley, T Broadley and G Mennall and their Professional Coby Atkin.
They recorded an excellent score of 130, which was 14-under-par).
All the fantastic prizes up for grabs throughout the day were presented to the winners at the end of the day by Jayne Manson representing the main sponsors Lloyd Dowson Chartered Accountants.
During the prizegiving many people were thanked for helping make the day such a huge success. Those thanked included the officials from the Yorkshire PGA, the catering and bar staff at Bridlington Golf Club and also the many members who helped and generously offered their services throughout the day.
Head greenkeeper Shaun Drum and his team were particularly praised for the condition of the course which was in immaculate condition.
The organisers thanked all the companies who sponsored the event and, in particular, Lloyd Dowson for their incredible commitment and support over the past 11 years.
Over £500 was raised during the day to help develop and promote junior golf in the Bridlington area.
David Dowson from Lloyd Dowson Accountants officially brought the day to a close by thanking everyone for their support and a special mention to the event organiser Anthony Howarth for all his hard work in organising the event.
He also announced that Lloyd Dowson would continue as main sponsors for the 2015 event which will take place on Friday 5 June.
