Bridlington’s Di Levitt has been on top form for England Lady Masters women’s hockey team, claiming her third World Cup gold and a World Legends success.

At the end of April Levitt, who is Martongate Primary School deputy headteacher, played for England in the International Super Veterans Tournament in Tilburg, Holland

England won all eight of their games, scoring 43 goals and conceded none.

This was the ideal warm-up for the Grand Masters World Cup in late June in Barcelona.

Levitt said: “We played five pool games, where we beat Argentina 4-0, Netherlands 12-0, Scotland 5-0, V Alliance 2 11-0 and V Alliance 6-0.

“We then met Argentina in the final beating them 7-0, which meant we scored 45 goals and conceded none.”

The final tournament was the IMHA Legends Cup in Terrassa, Spain at the end of July.

She added: “This was only three weeks after returning home from the World Cup, and was the world’s biggest competition of its kind, including 132 teams, 3,000 athletes.

“There were matches on six pitches from 8.30am until 9pm for 10 days.

“We played five pool games but this time in difficult conditions of heat and humidity. Temperatures consistently of 35° and above. I’ve never played in conditions like this before.”

England beat New Zealand 1-0, Australia 4-2, a team from Holland 2-0, V Alliance 7-0 and Australian Wattles 7-0

Levitt added: “We played New Zealand in the final and claimed victory.

“To stand on the podium as World Cup gold medalists and then as World Legend gold medalists proved our standing as champions of the world.

“Squad statistics at the end of the season were we had played 22, won 22, goals for 132 against three.”

Levitt, who plays for Driffield HC, also won the World Cup in 2014 versus hosts Holland and in 2016 against New Zealand in Australia.
