The Captain’s Trophy is always a difficult start to the Bridlington Links’ EGGS Section’s season’s Majors and this one was no exception.
Mal Eades set the standard with a hard earned 41 points for his round, which was just one more than Tony Whitaker who was the runner-up. Charles Outhart finished third with 38 points followed by a cluster of players with under-par cards.
With just four weeks to the next Order of Merit Contest, several members will feel that they are in the mix after a solid start to the season.
Thursday’s back nine challenge was a Yellow Ball Game with teams of three taking part. Jim Kirby, Mike Lidster and Vic Mackinder came out on top with a creditable 74 points with a significant contribution from Mackinder. They were four points clear of Dave Kerr, Brian Rudd and Mal Eades who finished as runners-up after all three came in with a par at the dangerous 17th. The only two was recorded by Ian Sawyer.
The Links ladies section played the 18-hole Marie Curie Cup last Thursday. Margot Shaw took the honours with 30 points, ahead of Sue Horsman (26) and Carol Rudd (25).
All proceeds from the competition go to the Marie Curie Foundation and there was another excellent turn-out on a rather cold and damp day.
