The first ‘Major’ of the year for members of the Bridlington Links EGGS Section was the Captain’s Trophy.
It was an individual stableford competition, which bought out the competitive nature of those taking part on one of the first days of perfect conditions, with some run on most of the fairways.
The overall winner was Shaun Duckwith, who returned 44 points to seal a sensational victory. It was a consistent return throughout the 18 holes and a two on the tricky seventh was one of the highlights of the round.
Runner-up was Gavin Giles, whose 39 points would normally be enough to seal victory and included a well-earned two on the difficult fourth hole.
Division One of the competition was headed by Alan Purser, who just held off Ray Daykin on the countback rule after both recorded 32 points.
Another two on the seventh helped Dave Spencer take the honours in Division Two with a round of 34 points, which was one clear of runner-up Peter Rudlinton.
There was also a nine-hole competition, which was headed by Peter Hancock with 16 points, one clear of Mick Braginton who finished with a creditable 15 points.
Thursday’s back nine competition was an aggregate three-ball stableford game, played in pleasant but tricky conditions. The winning team accumulated 49 points for their half-round, with EGGS captain Peter McBride partnering Charlie Outhart and Mick Braginton.
