Auto 66 Racing Double SuperTwin Champion James Cowton has secured a ride with long-time sponsor and supporter of road racing, Stewart Smith Racing for 2014.

Stewart’s 650 Kawasaki has previously seen many successes during 2013 in the hands of Dean Harrison, including a number of close encounters with his successor in the saddle for this year, Cowton.

The 21-year-old from Kilham will be entering his fifth season of motorcycle racing this year and is planning to compete in most of the major road race meetings in England, Ireland and the Isle of Man.

He will be making his debut in the world renowned TT Races and returning to the International Southern 100 Road Races.

Cowton’s 2014 road racing season commences at his ‘home’ circuit, Oliver’s Mount in Scarborough with the Ian Watson Spring Cup on Sunday 13 April.

But before that, he has been shortlisted for the main Sports Person of the Year award at the third Bridlington Free Press Sports Awards on 7 March, where he is up against long distance runner Phill Taylor, cricketer Russ Robinson and Mat Exon from the Royal Yorkshire Yacht Club.

He is still looking for a 1000cc machine to enable him to ride in the prestigious Superbike and Superstock classes during the forthcoming season and offers will be very much welcome.

Cowton will continue to campaign his own 600cc Honda in the SuperSport races and will be out to retain his double championship titles achieved last year.

He also hopes to improve his sixth place in the 2013 Duke Road Race Rankings, a season-long Championship, which involves races at Oliver’s Mount, the Isle of Man mountain course and at Dundrod in Northern Ireland.

Points will be accumulated at The Isle of Man International TT Races, the Barry Sheene Race Festival, the Southern 100 International Road Races, the Cock o’the North Continental Road Races, the Ulster Grand Prix, the Classic TT and the Steve Henshaw International Gold Cup Road Races

A packed 12 months will also see Cowton involved in the Auto 66 Club Road and Track Championship, the Lee Vernon SuperTwin Championship and the Northern Clubman’s Championship.

Any local businesses interested in sponsoring Cowton for the 2014 season can contact his team on 07890 200101.
