Burlington Junior School gymnasts finished in an impressive 11th place at the Milano Trio Nationals in Stoke.
Ruby Simpson, Ellie Hughes and Lily Grainger all contributed superb routines under high pressure to give a team total of 103.52 points.
Headteacher Alison Beckett said: “These girls have been dedicated to training for this competition for months and it was clear their hard work paid off as they became the 11th best under 11 girl gymnasts in the UK.
“This was a massive achievement for both them and Burlington School, as they were up against a very high standard of competitor.”
The format of the competition meant that each girl competed on both floor and vault, and then to finish the trio performed their group floor routine.
Their individual points along with the group points contributed to their final overall team score.
Simpson began on floor, as one of Burlington’s most experienced gymnasts. She had a massive routine, hugely powerful and highly difficult moves, mixed with some high-tempo choreography that scored her 12.8.
Next was Grainger, who was fearless, with expressive dance work and controlled tumbling scoring her 12.46.
Finally, Hughes took to the floor, her routine was full of energy and performance, gaining her an impressive score of 13.16.
On the vault section of the competition, each girl performed a squat-through over-vault for their first attempt. Simpson and Hughes performed a hand spring on their second attempt.
All the girls competed well with scores of 14.7, 14.1, 14.05.
Finally, came their group floor routine which the girls had worked so hard to perfect. The choice of elements suited the girls’ level, maturity of the team and also their music.
They produced a superb technical performance, with fluent and linked movements, and impressive synchronisation as well as expressive presentation scoring them 22.25.
