A team of year six boys from Burlington Junior School travelled to Hull for the Humberside Badminton tournament, representing East Yorkshire.

They were put into a pool against teams from Hull, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire. The children played as a team of five and had to score as many points as they could against the other team in 10 minutes.

After losing to Wooton 25-31, they beat Healing 36-18 and Thorpe Park 43-14.

This resulted in the boys entering the next round, to face Scawby. The score at full time was a tie so the teams had to play the next point to win the match.

The pressure was on and Scawby won the match through an inaccurate serve.

The Burlington boys were then able to play Ulceby School for fifth or sixth position in the competition. The game ended 36-17, resulting in the Bridlington team taking fifth spot.

Teacher Kerry Scruton said: “It was a great day and there were some fantastic players at a high level. All the boys represented the school very well and played brilliantly.”

The team consisted of Louis Beckett, Spencer Bennett, Jacob O’Brien, Aaron Waring and William Noble. Martongate School also represented East Riding in the event.
