Bridlington’s badminton stars of the future took part in the 2014 Junior Tournament at Bridlington Sports Centre last weekend.

Beth Summers was the day’s first champion, lifting the North Star Hotel Trophy, after beating Lauren Anderson in the under 13s event. Ben Garland was unbeaten as he powered his way to the boys’ crown.

In the doubles event, the boys were determined not to lose to the girls pairs so the competition was ferocious. Anderson and Isabelle Brown finished third, as Cameron Nalton and Garland beat Summers and Chloe Francis to lift the Railtrack Trophy.

Stacey Deighton won the under 15 girls’ title, earning the BDBA Trophy while Ashley Kelly scored a maximum 84 points on his way to top spot for the boys.

Kelly also picked up the Paul Robinson Trophy for the best under 17 boy, beating Eddie Benson in the final. The pair then teamed up to win the doubles event, which resulted in them lifting the Pirate Ship Cup.
