Young karting racer Matty Bonnett started his season at the Rowrah track in Cumbria in the first round of the National Championships.
The circuit is reputed to be one of the hardest in the country and Formula One star Lewis Hamilton raced their in his early days.
Undaunted by this, Bonnett set the pace on Saturday, taking his team’s advice and improving his qualifying teams throughout the day.
Dry conditions arrived for the race on Sunday and Bonnett, in his first season at national level, qualified eighth on the grid.
Against the best English, Scottish and Welsh drivers, his team felt a top 10 finish would be an exceptional result.
Despite being in a 24-strong field, some strong and brave manoeuvres saw the Bridlington youngster finish in eighth spot.
Round two is at Grantham on May 1.
Bonnett thanked his sponsors Arrow Cars and Baff Joinery.
