Conor Benson, a pupil at Our Lady and St Peter’s School in Bridlington, competed in the Yorkshire Schools Biathlon Final held at Driffield Leisure Centre.

In what proved to a tough competition, competitors had to complete a 50 metre swim and then a 400 metre run, gaining points in each discipline.

Benson, 9, aged nine, finished in second place in the swim with a time of 40.77 seconds, which was a personal best time. Then came the run, in which he finished in fourth place. This took him into first place overall.

Following this achievement, he has now qualified to compete in the Yorkshire Regional Biathlon Championships in York in October.

Conor is a member of the Bridlington Swimming Club and the training and coaching that he receives from Geoff Edmond have helped him to achieve these fantastic results.

He is also a member of the Burlington Jackdaws football team.
