Alex Belt added another title to his impressive season’s haul when he won the PGA North Manchester Open at Marriott Worsley Park.

Bridlington’s 28-year-old EuroPro Tour player, who is attached to Snainton Golf Centre, rolled in six birdies in the last 11 holes as he breezed past the overnight leaders with a closing round of 66 to add to his opening 69 for a seven-under-par aggregate.

That left him a shot ahead of Renishaw Park’s Michael Ramsden as Stockport assistant Danny Wardrop, a former Challenge Tour player competing in his own Manchester backyard, finished third three strokes off the pace.

Belt powered to victory in the De Vere PGA North Region Championship at Herons’ Reach in May.

Then a few weeks later lost in a play-off against Abbeydale’s Gareth Davies in the Yorkshire PGA Masters at Sandburn Hall.

His win at Worsley Park increased Belt’s lead in the Michael Slater Order of Merit to 295 points over Mossock Hall’s David Shacklady, who was defending his title in Manchester.

Belt said: “This was the fourth PGA Order of Merit event.

“It was a particularly big week for me as current Order of Merit leader and gave me a chance to extend my lead.

“The top three players at the end of the season qualify for National PGA play offs in Turkey at the end of November.

“A total of 23 players qualify for that event and the top 10 players get a spot at the PGA European Tour’s flagship event at Wentworth.

“Also up for grabs are four other European Tour and Challenge tour invitations.

“This is a great opportunity to potentially gain access to the highest level of golf.

“Special thanks to local businesses who support me, including Lloyd Dowson, Nicholas Belt estate agency, Pineapple Joes, The Crown Spa and Snainton Golf Centre.”

This week, Belt was heading up to Scotland’s Mar Hall to play the latest Euro Pro Tour event .
