SUNDAY saw the final race in this season’s East Yorkshire Cross Country League.

The race was held at Sewerby, starting and finishing on the clifftop near the Ship Inn and 117 runners completed the six- mile course taking in Danes’ Dyke and footpaths to Flamborough and back.

Runners will look back on this race as possibly the wettest they have taken part in because the heavens opened shortly after the start and there was heavy rain for the rest of the race.

Thanks must go to the many volunteers who marshaled and officiated in such difficult circumstances.

The race was won by James Kraft of Scarborough AC, with Carla Stansfield of Beverley AC leading the ladies home.

Scarborough were first men’s team and City of Hull were first ladies’ team. Both Bridlington’s men and ladies’ teams finished a pleasing third team place.

As the race was the last of the winter, prizes were presented for overall performances with City of Hull taking both the men’s and ladies’ team trophies.

Bridlington’s ladies were placed third, but the men were down in seventh place. Peter Gulc was fifth overall man and Marc Corner won the season’s prize as the first veteran 40,

Emma Brown was second lady veteran and Angelika Corner second over 45 lady. Judy Allison was first overall in the over 60 vets, with Bob Eyre first over 65.
