Glorious sunshine blessed the 18th annual Seaside Pro/Am Golf event held last Friday at Bridlington Golf Club.
Event organiser Anthony Howarth said the day established the event as the biggest of its kind in Yorkshire and he told the Free Press “The event was a resounding success and the icing on the cake was the glorious weather we experienced on the day.
“The weather is always a concern and the perfect summer conditions on the day ultimately contributed to the day’s success”.
Almost 50 professionals from over the North of England graced the fairways at the Belvedere course and they were joined by 144 amateurs to make up the four-man teams.
The Bridlington Free Press Trophy and a cheque for £1,500, presented to the leading professional was claimed by a previous winner, Adrian Ambler of Low Laithes Golf Club, who returned an impressive three-under-par score of 69.
Ambler, who triumphed in 2007, was very complimentary about the quality of the course and also paid tribute to how well the event was run.
The keenly contested Lloyd Dowson Team Trophy was eventually won by the Adams Construction team consisting of Bridlington Golf Club members Martin Adams, John Kilvington and Richard Medforth.
Their professional was Aran Wainwright from the Mid Yorkshire GC and they scored an excellent 128, or 16-under-par.
The day also raised £1,000 for Help For Heroes.
All the fantastic prizes up for grabs throughout the day were presented to the winners at the end of the day by David Dowson of the main sponsors Lloyd Dowson Chartered Accountants.
Lloyd Dowson Accountants will continue as main sponsors for the 2014 event which will take place on Friday 6 June.
