Bridlington 2nds gained a narrow six-run win over Staxton 2nds in a thrilling finish.

The visitors batted first and got off to a steady start before losing Greg Miller for 18. Mark Purvis and Rob Middlewood then put on a fine partnership of more than 100 before both departed in quick succession, Middlewood made 84 and Purvis 48 but once they had gone, wickets tumbled in a late scramble for runs.

Bridlington fell a little short of what they were looking for, finishing on 207/8.

Hill and veteran Mick Witty got Staxton off to a good start but tight bowling from Ben Traves, Frankie Reffold and Peter Bowtell kept the run rate down.

Hill as finally run out for 63 but Witty remained solid, despite losing partners, as Reffold, Harry Burnhill and Steve Lount picked up wickets. A vital run out accounted for Blanchard, who was going well.

Reffold put in a great second spell and Burnhill conceded only 22 runs from five overs as Bridlington scraped home.

Another good team effort saw several inexperienced players acquitting themselves splendidly.
