Two local clubs will battle it out in the final of the Welford Cricket Cup, which takes place at Ebberston on Wednesday, 17 July, from 6pm.

A new name will appear on the trophy this year as the two finalists - Flamborough and Wold Newton 2nds have never reached the final before.

Flamborough who are riding high in the Derwent Valley Cricket League Division B will start favourites against Wold Newton 2nds, who currently are near the bottom of this division.

In their league clash earlier this season, Flamborough won comfortably and will be hoping to repeat that sucess, but finals can, and do, upset favourites, so a good close game is hoped for.

Flamborough reached the final after beating Kirbymoorside 2nds and then close neighbours and rivals Sewerby 4ths in the semi-final.

Wold Newton 2nds beat Sherburn 2nds and then Flixton 3rds in the semi-final on their way to this final.

The trophies will be presented at the end of the game by Bob Cowton - a vice president of the Derwent Valley Cricket League who run this competition.

The umpires for the final are Les Johnson and Mike Brodie.
