In glorious sunshine, more than 350 people attended the U7/8 boys and U9/10 girls beach soccer competitions in Bridlington on Saturday.
The event attracted teams from Sheffield, York, Grimsby, Hull, Glasshoughton, Beverley as well as local clubs Bridlington Rangers and Burlington Jackdaws.
It was the first time many of the players had tried beach soccer and the feedback was that many of the teams will return next year.
The boys tournament, after a tense final that went into extra time, saw Sproatley Juniors beat York RI in a penalty shoot-out and the girls saw Malet Lambert beat Pinefleet Girls to raise the cup.
A men’s tournament in Bridlington on August 1 will see the winning team gain entry to the national finals later that month, and the chance to represent England in a Champions League Beach Soccer Tournament. Representatives of the England team will also be watching for star players.
