Sports Club went into the match knowing three points were was required to give them any chance of continuing the relegation battle to stay in the Humber Premier League.

The team were boosted by the return of Dixon, Janney, Tyler and Wood which added strength to the squad. Sports Club started the game well with Douthwaite, McEwan and Wallace controlling the centre of the park, and while Hessle enjoyed some joy down the flanks, Gregory and Barber were strong enough to stop any potential attacks.

The first chance came from a deep Douthwaite free kick which lobbed the keeper for Dixon to head just over at the back post.

Hessle slowly got into the game and their first chance of the game was save well by Janney but a weak Wood clearance fell to the winger who finished neatly at the front post to give the visitors the lead.

Sports Club were hoping their missed chances would not be regretted, as in previous weeks, and showed excellent commitment and attitude to get back on top of the opponents. Long-range efforts from Dixon, Douthwaite and Robinson were blocked or saved by the Hessle defenders but the Sports Club pressure continued as the half progressed.

The breakthrough finally came when a cross was met by the head of Barber whose lobbed header looped over the goalkeeper and into the top corner for his first goal of the season.

The second half started well for the home team with some attacking play by Gregory and Barber from full back positions, creating space in the opposition half but no clear cut chances could be created.

Hessle looked to counter attack when possible but the centre pairing of Bemrose and Wood were holding strong. Wallace looked confident in the middle of the park, maintaining possession well and linking up with Bogle and Robinson, but the home team couldn’t find an effort on target.

Douthwaite finally put Sports Club in the lead with a bullet header from a McEwan cross. Jackson and Tyler were introduced for Douthwaite and McEwan who added new pace to wings. Tyler made an instant impact linking well with Wallace and Bogle to outplay the Hessle full back on numerous occasions.

Barber also looked fast on the wing providing some good skill which created a cross but neither Robsinson nor Bogle could get on the end of it. Smith replaced Barber who had cramp from his sprinting as Sports Club looked to see out the last 20 minutes.

The pressure was relieved when a long kick from Janney was headed by the center half over the oncoming goalkeeper to provide a gifted third goal which allowed Sports Club to see the game out comfortably.
