The thoughts of Bridlinton Town manager Gary Allanson after his side’s 2-0 defeat at Spennymoor Town in the FA Vase.
“Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and admit you are second best, this was the case here.
“Spennymoor are a very good side, they were quicker, fitter, inventive and clever in everything they did. They are two or three levels above us unfortunately.
“Having said that I was very proud of our players who worked very, very hard all game and showed great character because we were under enormous pressure all game.
“We did change our system as we are not naive enough to think we can play our own game against these type of teams, we tried to stay solid and compact and try and hit them on the counter attack.
“We had three or four half chances and one very good chance at 2-0, but no complaints.
“It was a very long day for us and we set off at 9:15am and also had some lads who had gone into work first so they had been up since 5.30am.
“We did stop for half-an-hour for a pre-match meal but consider when they played us last season they had an overnight stay and their preparation is a massive gulf to where we are at, but no excuses they were far the better team to us, their set up and preparation is a long, long way ahead of us.
“We have to move on and concentrate on the league and cups we are still in, still lots to play for starting with a very tough game against Worksop next week,
“Our cup tied players will be available again and hopefully one or two injuries will be cleared up.”
