Bridlington Rangers Tigers under 9s went into Sunday’s fixture against Hessle Sporting Cobras needing one win from their last two matches to gain promotion in the Hull Boys Sunday League.

The first match started at a fast pace and it was Hessle who quickly took the advantage grabbing two goals in the first half.

In the second half Hessle again started the brighter and quickly added two more goals. Bridlington still battled on but the Hessle defence stood firm and they countered with two more goals, making the final score 6-0.

This put Hessle into the promotion spot.

The second match was a real nail-biter but the Tigers came out the brightest with great passing and resolute defending, giving Hessle no time to on the ball.

Bridlington gained the early advantage with a great team move and Gibbs coolly found the back of the net.

This put Hessle on the back foot and they struggled to find their passes as Brid continued to chase every loose ball and just before half time, the tireless Wildish latched on to a loose ball and unleashed a unstoppable shot from outside the box into the top corner.

Brid again started brightly and were looking to kill the game off with a third, but as both teams continued to battle for possession, it was Hessle who grabbed a goal to set up a tension-filled final six minutes.

Rangers continued to play their football and tackles came flying in from both sides as Hessle continued to push for a equaliser.

The game opened up with both teams coming close, some quick passing put McCloud through but the keeper pulled off a great save before the Hessle striker went through one-on-one only for Scott to stand tall, smother the ball and clinch promotion.
