The teenager is on the books at United’s Academy, playing in the Under-14s team this season.

“He remained focused throughout the lockdown, creating his own training plan and partaking in all the arranged online calls with his coaches and team mates.

“He fully engaged with the home based skill challenges demonstrating his resilience and working hard until he had successfully completed them.”

As soon as he was able to Grainger returned to goal keeper training sessions with former Hull City and Scarborough FC gloveman Gavin Kelly, working as a duo with Kornel Miscuir (also formerly of Jackdaws and now at Hull City Academy).

“They spent the summer pushing boundaries and challenging themselves to get some great results in preparation for the new season.

Sarah Grainger added: “The 2020/21 season has started well and Owen was eager to get back to training and games.

“He has been able to continue with training throughout Lockdown Two and play some fixtures, the strict protocols mean games are parent free so at present spectating is very limited.

“Owen analyses his own performance after each game, looking at positives and areas he would like to improve, he then implements those improvements in the next game.

“His hopes for the season ahead are to keep training and playing without disruption, his goal is to play up a year group as often as possible.”
