Bridlington Sports Club suffered a second-half nightmare on Hallowe’en as they went down 3-1 to Crown FC in the Humber Premier League.

The talking point at the start of the match was manager Paul Smith’s bold decision to select talented young goalkeeper Reece Nestor in the starting 11 for his first competitive appearance.

The 16-year-old fully justified his manager’s confidence as he displayed the calmness of a veteran to take the pressure off his side in the early exchanges.

Sports Club went on to take the lead as an exquisite pass from Ash Robinson was dispatched confidently by the onrushing Billy Tyler. The hosts were en left to rue a moment of controversy as a back pass was picked up by Crown’s keeper but went unpunished by the officials.

Encouraged by this slice of fortune Crown ended the first half in the ascendency but the Brid side reached the interval with a lead to protect.

Unfortunately, history was to repeat itself as the old demons returned to haunt Sports Club. Firstly, a defensive lapse in concentration led to a free header as Crown deservedly got themselves level.

The visitors were starting to turn the screw as the home side sank further and further back into their shell. They continued to surrender cheap possession and were duly punished as a slick move down the right hand side led to a second for the away side.

The visitors then added a killer third late on as some neat build up play was rounded off with a fabulous finish into the far corner.

Ryan McCallister, Alex Reveley and Luke Mace netted Crown’s goals.

Sports Club travel to Hedon Rangers this weekend.
