FOOTBALL fans are getting ready for a festive bonanza, with a double header between Bridlington Town and Scarborough Athletic over Christmas and New Year.

Fixture compilers at the Northern Counties East League have made a number of changes to the Seasiders’ schedule - the most notable being the changes to the derby games.

Bridlington will host their tenants at 3pm on Boxing Day, which is sure to bring a bumper crowd to Queensgate.

The return fixture has been set for Monday, January 2, after it was called off in September because of Athletic’s involvement in the FA Cup on the original date.

However Town manager Mitch Cook said the situation was not ideal. He told the Free Press: “Hopefully it will not prove to be a bad decision, with the matches being postponed because of bad weather and then being rearranged for a midweek.

“I think most teams would say they wouldn’t want to play the same opposition twice in seven days. There will be incidents with players, and it is a high-profile game for supporters so it may not necessarily be a good thing.”

Other fixture changes for Town sees their original festive games moved to November. Maltby Main’s visit, due to be on Christmas Eve, is now on Tuesday, November 1, while the trip to Selby will no longer be on New Year’s Eve, moving instead to November 15.

Armthorpe Welfare now come to the East Coast on Easter Monday, April 9, while the Seasiders’ final match of the campaign will now be at home to Retford United on April 28.
