Bridlington Town player-boss Brett Agnew delighted with 1-0 win at Hemsworth
Bridlington Town player-boss Brett Agnew was delighted by the way his team reacted to a cup loss to North Ferriby with 1-0 win at promotion rivals Hemsworth MW on Saturday.
Agnew had blasted his players after the ERCFA Senior Cup loss to Ferriby, but hailed his team’s reaction at Hemsworth.
“I was chuffed with the way the lads played at Hemsworth, and how they reacted to what I said after the cup defeat,” he said.
“They all defended superbly, starting from the front, as they came at us in the second half but we held on for the win and soaked up the pressure.
“Chris Adams’ header was fantastic. He has been in great form in the past six or seven games and has stepped up.”
This win kept Town well placed in the NCEL Premier Division promotion battle and with the next two games against the bottom two sides, Agnew is eyeing six points.
He added: “These next two games are an ideal chance for us to push on as the teams around us are playing each other, while we are up against the bottom two teams.
“We will not take either game for granted but if we get six points then we’ll be well set heading into the tough game at Staveley on December 28.”
The Seasiders have several injury concerns heading into Saturday’s game.
Agnew said: “Lewis Dennison is doubtful for Saturday, Joe McFadyen’s still struggling with his hip issue and Joe Danby is out for a few weeks.
“I had to play the full 90 on Saturday as Billy Logan was not 100%, but he did come on as a sub so I am hoping he will be okay for this weekend.”
Midfielder Lewis Taylor also misses the game through suspension.
Agnew also confirmed that forward Josh Greening has left the club.
He said: “Due to work commitments Josh has left by mutual consent but the door is always open if he wants to come back in the future.”
