Boss Agnew happy with Bridlington Town's start to the season
Bridlington Town player-boss Brett Agnew is very happy with his side’s good start to the season, which continued with an 8-1 demolition of Athersley on Saturday at Queensgate.
The Seasiders are without a game now until October 31 when North Shields are the visitors in the FA Vase.
Agnew said: “I am very happy with the start we have made, to be lying second in the NCEL Premier table at this point is very good.
“We have often made inconsistent starts in the past and would be somewhere like ninth so to be second is great but we could easily have been top as there have been some fine margins in the games where we lost.
“There were moments in the losses to Knaresborough and Yorkshire Amateur when we could have taken our chances and got something.”
Agnew is also happy with the quality in depth in his squad, highlighted by his side’s win on Saturday despite making several changes to the starting line-up.
He added: “We have plenty of strength in depth now, and the likes of Chris Adams and Lewis Taylor came in and did well on Saturday.
“We managed to give Will Annan a rest on the bench and could take Pete Davidson off as well, Ellis Barkworth also came off the bench for his debut as well.
“I even managed to get some minutes from the bench as well on Saturday so we have a lot of options. I was a bit unhappy with not taking a couple of scoring chances that I had.
“I am still getting players calling me about coming here but I don’t really want to get any more in here for the sake of it as we’ve a good set of lads.”
Brid Town have seen two forwards depart this week, with winger Jaime Ture returning to Winterton Rangers and recent signing Nathan Keightley has had to take a step away from football for family reasons.
