The views of Bridlington Town manager Gary Allanson after their 1-0 extra time win at Athersley Recreation in the second round of the FA Vase.

“Very hard fought game, very tense and even though we had the better chances it could have still gone either way, but we were organised, professional and more than anything we were together.

“There is a great team spirit building up between the players and more than anything else this is what shone through, the character and work ethic was fantastic to watch and be involved with and every player worked very, very hard for each other.

“I am very proud of all the players, staff and the fans who made the effort to travel and support us and create a great atmosphere.

“Credit to Athersley who never gave up and you can see why they have been doing well this season. They were tenacious in everything they did and very closely marked our players to such an extent that when we got off the bus in Hull their number four and number three got off with Craig Hogg and Joel Sutton.

“I don’t usually praise individual players but I would like to mention our goalkeeper Phil Dobson who has done brilliantly since coming in.

“We have won all five games he has played, only conceded three goals and his experience and presence has really helped us to be more solid especially at set pieces where his positioning and talking is great and he has really helped our defence to have greater confidence and security.

“We are hoping we can sign a young goalkeeper as cover and are talking to a young striker who will hopefully join us next week.”
