Tykes confident of Finch return plus day three highlights from New Road

Yorkshire’s director of cricket Martyn Moxon is hopeful that Aaron Finch will still be able to play for the White Rose County this summer.

Australian international Finch sustained a hamstring injury playing for Mumbai Indians in their IPL match against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday.

The right-hander is set to miss the rest of the IPL season.

“We remain hopeful that Aaron (Finch) will be with Yorkshire at some stage in May,” revealed Moxon.

“It is disappointing news for him and a great shame that he’ll miss most of the IPL season.

“We look forward to welcoming him to Headingley at some stage next month and that he will be fit and ready to play in the LV= County Championship and the NatWest T20 Blast competitions respectively.”

Meanwhile, seamer Ryan Sidebottom is set to have a scan in the next 48 hours on an injured calf he picked up in Yorkshire’s victory over Worcestershire at New Road earlier this week.

Moxon is fearing the worst that the left-arm seamer could be out for several weeks.

“Siddy (Ryan Sidebottom) is likely to be missing for several weeks,” added Moxon.

“He is set to have a scan in the next day or so and once we have the results back we will have a better indication of how long he’ll be missing.

“It is a great shame for him. He has been one of our most consistent performers over the past few years.

“It will mean that one of our squad players will come in and take on the responsibility of being one of our main strike bowlers.”
