Sanderson's century seals win for champions Filey at Bridlington 2nds

Brid batted first, posting a total of 192-8, Elliot Traves leading the way with 60, ably supported by Richard Lount, who added 32 as Tom Watson (4-29) and Stuart Neilson (3-23) shone with the ball.

Filey’s response was heavily reliant on the runs of Sanderson, who smashed 101, with on-loan Daniel Artley and Dan Jeminson both hitting 29 to help them nudge home with one wicket to spare despite the best efforts of Simon Leeson, who took four wickets.

Another batsman in form on the opening day of the season was Cayton captain Jake McAleese, who helped his side to victory at Staxton.

McAleese won the toss and elected to bat first, carrying his bat throughout his side’s innings of 292-9 and finishing up on 113 not out with support from Harry Holden’s 49 as Kieran Walker bagged 4-82.

In reply, Tom Pratt made 39 and Paul Virr ended 35 not out, but Staxton fell well short on 158-7, Tom Ward taking two wickets with the rest of the Cayton attacking chipping in.

Staithes got their title bid under way with a victory against derby rivals Mulgrave at Lythe.

Hosts Mulgrave batted first and posted 193-8, Andrew Thompson hitting 66 not out with support from Craig Thompson’s 47.

Chris Morrison (3-61), Stuart Theaker (2-28) and Simon Bowes (2-43) all impressed with the ball before Morrison cracked two sixes and 11 fours on his way to 67 that helped Staithes to 197-2.

Ebberston cruised to victory in their opening match of the season at home against Seamer & Irton.

Seamer batted first and were all out for just 66, Gary Lawton hitting 25 of their paltry total.

James Boyes was in fine form with the ball for Ebberston as he claimed figures of 4-17, while fellow opening bowler Frankie Beal bagged 4-26 as Seamer struggled to get going.

Ebberston’s openers Michael Hirst (36) and Jonathan Mason (27) set the home side up for victory before they finished up 68-2 in 14 overs.

Cloughton were unable to raise a team and conceded their opening match of the season against Brompton.

All five divisions are scheduled to be in action on Saturday.

In the Premier Division, Cayton are on home soil against Seamer, Cloughton host Mulgrave, Filey welcome Brompton, Staxton play Bridlington 2nds and Scalby get their campaign under way with a home match against Staithes.

There are some intriguing encounters in Division One, with relegated Heslerton hoping to start with a win at home to Settrington.

Settrington play Forge Valley at home, Sewerby play Folkton & Flixton 2nds, Sherburn host Great Habton and Wykeham play Cayton 2nds.

Ebberston are at home to Snainton on the opening day of the Division Two season, with Scalby 2nds taking the trip to Grosmont.

Elsewhere in the division, Mulgrave 2nds play Wykeham 2nds, Seamer 2nds are at home against Ganton and Wold Newton welcome Fylingdales.

In Division Three, Great Habton 2nds play Glaisdale, Malton & Old Malton 3rds are at home to Folkton & Flixton 3rds, Ravenscar host Nawton Grange and Scarborough Rugby Club take on Muston.

Forge Valley 2nds take on Scarborough 3rds in Division Four, with Thornton Dale 2nds at home to Bridlington 3rds.

Ganton 2nds host Flamborough, Wykeham 3rds welcome Brompton 2nds, Goathland play Malton & Old Malton 4ths and Scalby 3rds are at home against Cayton 3rds.

On Sunday Sherburn 2nds get under way when they play Ravenscar 2nds.
