Kirkby claim DVL Division A title

Kirkbymoorside secured the Derwent Valley League Division A title with a massive 187-run home win against Sherburn 2nds.

The Moorsiders racked up a testing 217-1 thanks to an unbeaten 109 from Graham Jem ison, 48 from Andy Marley and 37 not out from Jordan Thackeray.

Sherburn then slumped to 30 all out, Jez Underwood taking 3-2, Bayes 3-5 and Josh Carter 2-7.

Long-standing supporter of Kirkbymoorside CC Eddie Sails died last week and the teams held a minute’s silence at the game in his respect.

Flixton 3rds won by four wickets at home to Hospitals/Rugby Club to finish as runners-up.

The visitors made 152-7, Tim Elliott hitting 38 and Pete Hill bagging 3-35.

Skipper John Ward then led by example with 51, John Sowden capping a stunning season with 52 not out as Flixton sealed the win despite fine bowling from Mark Kelly, who had earlier hit 26.

It was an end of an era at Wold Newton 2nds as Lockton’s 59-year-old Keith Eddon retired from cricket and their skipper Simon Boyes stepped down after seven years at the helm.

Lockton looked to be cruising to victory with the hosts 26-7, but a partnership of 76 for the eighth wicket between Chris Hodgson, 51, and Adam Lee helped them up to a respectable total of 130-9, Eddon taking 2-33 from 12 overs and James Boyes - Simon’s son - grabbing 4-13.

Fifty-year-old opener Boyes carried his bat for 61 as Lockton made 109--2 in reply, fellow opener Eddon, who is 60 next month, scoring 18 in his final game.

Filey 2nds won by 95 runs at home to Forge Valley 3rds.

Dave Brannan top scored with 35 not out as the hosts posted 155 all out, Luke Calvert bagging 5-28. and Dave Tomlinson 3-13.

Valley then slipped to 60 all out, Ellery Liley taking 3-16 and Kevin Chapman 3-23.

Cayton 3rds secured promotion as runners-up in Division B with an eight-wicket win at Thornton Dale 2nds.

Shakil Iqbal took 6-13 and stalwart Trev Davies 3-22 as Dale slipped to 65 all out and Danny Wilson wrapped up the win with 47 for Cayton.

Valley Bar Nomads narrowly missed out on promotion despite their 94-run win at Muston 2nds.

Ben Atkinson’s superb unbeaten 129, along with 58 not out from Anosh George and 40 from Craig Best saw Nomads post 241-1, and Muston were all out for 147 in reply, George taking a magnificent seven wickets for 35 runs for Nomads.

Ravenscar 2nds finished their season on a high note with a tense seven-run win at Wykeham 3rds.

Teenagers Luke Stokoe and Robbie Welford hit 30 apiece and veteran John Morrison 32 not out as the visitors set 151-9.

The hosts were dismissed for 144 in reply despite 35 from George Shannon and 25 not out from Lewis Eustace, John Nelson taking 4-37.

Ganton 2nds eased to an eight-wicket home win against basement team Scalby 3rds.

The visitors posted 122-6 and in reply Dan Reardon’s unbeaten 51, along with 34 from teenager Mike Kipling, on loan from champions Snainton, wrapped up an exceeding good win.
