John Major's high hopes for new Bridlington Cricket Club Ladies team
Bridlington Cricket Club 1st team skipper John Major is gearing up for a bumper 2021 season which will see the potential introduction of a new women’s team at Dukes Park.
With the demand for women’s cricket on the rise, Major believes that this is the perfect time to set up a side.
He said: “We had the plans in place for last season but, obviously, we thought it was for the best that we postpone it a year.
“The idea of a new side has been well received and we’ve had quite a few women sign up and show an interest.
“At the minute it’s all about putting the foundations in place and then look to expand further in the future.”
The right-handed batting all-rounder has exciting hopes for the club and would one day love to see women’s cricket firmly on the map around the country.
He added: “It’s obviously on the up at the minute and I’d love to get as many involved as possible.
“As a club we want to be open for as many people as we can and welcome any age, level and ability.
“Having a women’s side has always been in the development plans and now that we are beginning to prepare for it, it’s going to be about building up slowly.”
England women, who were in action against New Zealand this week, continue to be successful on the global stage and Major believes that they are inspiring more to get involved with the sport.
“I’m sure that more girls are seeing women’s cricket on TV and this is helping grow the sport even more.
“In the future, I’d love to have even more sides at the club and be able to introduce a female coach too.”
