Hutchinson hits unbeaten 88 to help fire Flixton to Bridlington victory

Folkton & Flixton batsman Will Hutchinson proved to be the star man as his side won by 13 runs in a tight game at home to Bridlington in YPLN East One on Saturday.

Former Sewerby ace Russ Robinson gave the visitors an early double boost, dismissing openers Edward Hopper and Rich Malthouse to leave Flixton on 24-2.

Number three Hutchinson proved to be the key man for Flixton as his unbeaten 88, including 11 fours, made sure that the home side set a respectable target.

Youngster Max Harland (15) and skipper Harry Walmsley (12) were the only other batsmen to make it into double figures as Bridlington’s bowlers kept them in the contest.

Russ Robinson ended up with 3-11 from his 5.1 overs, while all-rounder Steve Janney and Adam Newington both took 3-33 as Flixton were dismissed for 161 from 38.1 overs.

Brid openers Sam Wragg and Casey Rudd set solid foundations for the visitors with a stand of 43, Wragg departing for 14.

Russ Robinson, skipper John Major and Janney then all got in then got out for 11, 12 and nine respectively, and when Rudd’s dismissal of 38 sparked a collapse that saw Brid slip from 113-4 to 148 all out in 33.4 overs.

Ricky Robinson (11) and Chris Hughes (16) were the only other Bridlington batsmen to battle against this slump.

Walmsley was the pick of the Flixton bowlers with final figures of 4-29, while Malthouse and Max Harland also chipped in with a couple of wickets for the victorious home side.

Folkton & Flixton will make the trip to Londesborough Park this Saturday looking to continue their winning form, 1pm start.

Brid host Cottingham this weekend.
