Needing six wickets overnight to claim a 23-point haul, the White Rose county were made to wait until the afternoon session thanks to the resistance of Will Smith.

He finished unbeaten on 64 but two wickets in two balls after lunch by Adil Rashid put the hosts within touching distance.

Steve Patterson then wrapped up the win when Fidel Edwards edged a delivery to Alex Lees at first slip as Hampshire were all out for 143.

Rashid finished with figures of four for 48 from 26 overs.

Meanwhile, Yorkshire have confirmed that overseas signing Glenn Maxwell will make his Yorkshire debut against Nottinghamshire in the NatWest T20 Blast on May 22.

The Australian is also likely to feature against Somerset in the County Championship two days later, signalling the end of Cheteshwar Pujara’s spell at the club.

He hit an unbeaten 133 yesterday to pave the way for Yorkshire’s victory.
