Brough and Glew steer Valley past Scalby in runfeast

Lee Kerr’s 100 proved to be in vain as Scalby suffered an eight-wicket loss at home to Forge Valley, Tom Brough smashing 109 and Mick Glew unbeaten on 97 as the visitors won a Readers Scarborough Beckett Cricket League premier division match which yielded 495 runs.

Kerr was offered great support by the in-form Dave Holborn, 64, as Scalby posted 246-9, James Tindall snapping up 5-60 for Valley.

Brough and Glew then smashed the Scalby bowlers to all parts, Joe Bradshaw, 26no, teaming up with Glew to seal the win.

Leaders Staithes cruised to a 149-run win at Filey.

Chris Morrison hammered 94 and Paul Wilson 75 as Staithes racked up 262-8, Stu Marsay chipping in with 36.

Simon Bowes snapped up 6-6 as Filey were dismissed for 113 despite defiant knocks from Andy Burrell, 48, and Phil Dickens, 35.

Ebberston eased to a 10-wicket win at Flixton 2nds thanks to a stand of 150 from openers Jonny Mason and Ady Turnbull.

Mason was left maroooned one run short of his century while Turnbull made a steady undefeated 40.

Conor Stephenson, 43, Geoff Hill 28, and Will Hutchinson, 25, steered Flixton to 146-9, Eddie Swiers continuing his fine form with 4-29.

There was alos an easy seven-wicket home win for Heslerton against Nawton Grange.

Paul Kinghorn took 4-21 as Grange made 132-7, Phil Marwood scoring 41 and Michael Wearmouth 30.

Jake Keyworth struck 59 in reply for the hosts, Sam Triffitt’s unbeaten 33 and Rob Middlewood’s 30 securing the success for Heslerton.

Staxton kept their title bid on track with a 45-run home win against Cayton, with all-rounder Dave Morris on top form.

The latter hit 45 from 98 balls as Staxton posted 228-6, Chris Dove’s powerful 89 from just 59 balls the driving force behind the home total, NIck Gibson hammering 65 from 78 deliveries.

Gregg Chadwick’s unbeaten 101 paved the way for division A leaders Seamer to wrap up a 92-run win against Brompton.

Support came from Phil Metcalfe, 45, Dave Graham, 33, and Adam Morris, 28, as Seamer made 237-6.

Paul Greenhough’s 3-54 then helped Seamer dismiss Brompton for 145 despite 30no from James Allison and 29 by Tom Noble.

Dave Pearson’s magnificent seven-wicket haul helped Wykeham snatch a victory that looked very unlikely during the tea break against visitors Sherburn.

Daley Wharton’s 3-17 helped bowl Wykeham out for just 89, but Pearson, 7-23, and Gareth Barnard, 3-12, sent Sherburn crashing to 38 all out.

Grindale made light of their current player shortage as they earned a five-wicket win against Settrington.

Ian Cousins took 3-21 as Settrington were skittled for 106 and he then top-scored with 31 as his side earned victory despite fine bowling from Setty’s John Huntsman, 4-28.

Mulgrave eased to a 122-run win at Cloughton.

C Thompson hit 94 and M Spagnuolo 51 as Mulgrave posted 200-9, Jack Hakings taking 5-64, and in reply A Thompson scooped 4-14 as Clough stumbled to 78 all out, Paul Virr scoring 34.

Wold Newton won by 31 runs at Cayton 2nds.

Charles Gray, 52, M Southwell, 48, Oli West, 41no and S Moore, 32no, guided Newton to 218-3.

In reply Cayton reached 187-7, Jes Riley scoring 66, Si Glave 39 and Simon Stubbs 37no, with A Moore taking 3-42.

Forge Valley 2nds won by a single run in a division B thriller at home to Scalby 2nds.

Gary Gibson struck 45 as Valley were dismissed for 149 thanks to dogged bowling from Tom Hendry, 4-36 and Tony Geall, 3-34.

James Deaves’ unbeaten 37 gave Scalby a fighting chance, but keen work from Valley duo Mark Nettleton, 3-19, and Liam Glaves, 3-25, saw the visitors dismissed when needing only one run to tie and two to win.

Steve Husband, 4-7, and Mark Estill, 3-2, bowled Fylingdales to a five-wicket home win against Bridlington 2nds.

Elliott Traves struck an undefeated 45 as Brid were dismissed for 82, and despite fine bowling from Andy Clay, 3-17, Chris Hurworth’s 27 helped edge Fylingdales to victory.

Dinesh Swaminathan’s 105 helped Ravenscar crush leaders Staxton 2nds by 109 runs.

The all-rounder’s ton was supported well by Joe Bayes’ 46 in their 203-6 as young left arm spinner Kinglsey Gray bowled a fine spell to claim 4-38.

Staxton’s response failed to get any momentum as Jish Rewcroft took 5-27 and Will Warwick’s 4-23 dismissed them for just 94.

Thornton Dale’s Lee Oliver was another bowler to claim a five wicket haul as his side romped to a nine-wicket win over Scarborough 3rds.

Oliver’s 5-9 and Tim Hunt’s -21 restricted the away side to just 84 with Ben Rowe making 33. Matthew Todd’s unbeaten 45 saw his side to a comfortable win.

Ganton were in the runs again, this time at home against Sewerby 2nds.

Rob Gretton blazed 65, Anthony Allison made 53, Richad Bannister 45 and Alistair Limb 27 as Ganton racked up 245-7.

Joel Sarup’s 4/12 and Limb, completing a fine personal performance with 3-36 eased the hosts to a resounding 160- run win.

Great Habton continued their good form at the top of division C with a 28 run home win against Seamer 2nds.

Captain John Lumley top scored with 49, but Dan Jewitt’s 4-11 and 4-2 from Conner Mysercough had the visitors taking tea in good spirits.

Rob Lazenby’s 28 gave Seamer hope, but a superb 6-22 from Liam Allanby saw Habton to their third win and top of the table.

Ebberston’s Simon Pickering has won the May bowling performance award following an amazing spell in his side’s home win over Cloughton 2nds.

Paul Lockey hit 53, Tom Holmes 49 and Rory Stead 35 as Ebberston made it to 232-9, before Pickering took over.

The medium pacer’s 7-19 wrecked the visitors’ batting order as they were shot out for 63, Oliver Shepparrd making 31 not out.

Muston’s Matthew Kings took 4-17 as his side restricted Heslerton 2nds to 130, Laurence Keyworth top scoring with 56.

In reply, leading duo Phil Marr and Steve Pratt both hit unbeaten fifties to ensure an eight-wicket win and 17 valuable points.

Ryedale were dismissed for 107 on their own ground by Wykeham 2nds.

Neil Cowton top scored with 48, but good bowling from Chris Remmer, 3-9, and 3-12 from Harry Gunning stopped any further progress.

Ian Thompson led the reply, top scoring with an unbeaten 25 to guide his side to 16 points.
