Bridlington CC skipper John Major hails opening success against Flixton
Bridlington Cricket Club first-team skipper John Major praised his team’s efforts in their pre-season clash at Folkton & Flixton on Saturday.
The Dukes Park club made a winning start to their campaign, but the emphasis was on giving players time out in the middle rather than the result in the friendly clash.
Major said: “Myself and Tom Norman their skipper, were keen to give as many of our bowlers and batsmen some overs and some time in the middle respectively on Saturday, and as far as I am concerned we did that very well.
“The weather was not great, it was snowing in Flixton when I arrived but we managed to wait it out and got a 30 over a side match played.
“We agreed between us for Flixton to bat first and we did very well with the ball, limiting them to 154-6, with Tom Hudson taking 2-16 from five overs and Sam Edmundson 2-25 from six overs.
“Tom got both his wickets in the same over, and there was a wicket apiece for Ben Traves and Casey Rudd, and Russ Robinson also getting some overs in too.”
Brid’s reply was solid, led by an excellent 45no from Ricky Robinson, firing them to victory with a couple of overs to spare.
Major added: “Casey Rudd hit 19, Russ Robinson 20 and Josh Mainprize 24, but it was Ricky’s 45 not out that wrapped it up.
“This was a good display to beat a side from the division above us, but mainly it was great for everyone to get a run-out after so long sidelined.
“We managed to get a couple of nets in last week before the match but that’s not a lot of preparation for the first game in nine months for most of us, hopefully we can get more training sessions in now on Tuesday and Thursdays.”
