BECKETT LEAGUE PREMIER: Scalby edge to win against Cayton

Scalby kept up their superb start to the Premier Division season with a one-wicket win at home to Cayton.

The visitors were all out for 196, Michael Dennis hitting 45, Harry Holden adding 32no, Jake McAleese 29 and George Worthy 29, Paul Hesp taking 3-27 and Gregor Fraser 3-42.

Jon Barton hit 57 for Scalby but it took tail-enders Lachlan Cooke (46) and James Deaves (30) to lift Scalby to victory, Stu Pickard collecting 3-53.

Leaders Staithes also had to dig deep for their two-wicket victory at Cloughton.

Josh Rewcroft’s heroic 83 helped Cloughton to 157 all out, Brad Lewis and Chris Morrison taking three wickets each.

The visitors then looked to be heading for defeat at 115-8, until an unbroken ninth-wicket stand of 45 between Callum Horne (26no) and skipper Ben Hoggarth (23no) edged them to the win, James Long taking 3-32.

Ebberston eased to a 106-run win at home to Brid 2nds.

Skipper Alex Machin hammered 70 as Ebberston posted 248-7, with support from Jake Finnegan (42), Jonty Megginson (40), James Wingrove (31) and James Boyes (25no).

Jack Ibbotson hit 51 and skipper Andy Smith 42 in reply but Brid slipped to 142 all out, Boyes and Sam Hardie taking three wickets apiece.

Matty Morris’ superb spell of 6-40 helped Seamer & Irton to a four-wicket success at Brompton.

Romario Roach hit 48 and Tom Bruce 28 as Brompton were all out for 153 in 32.1 overs.

Bruce then snapped up 4-28 to keep Brompton in the game, but Gregg Chadwick’s 49no, allied to 37 by Anthony Jenkinson, steered Seamer to the win.

Mulgrave skipper Craig Thompson hammered an unbeaten 101 as his side won by 89 runs at Staxton.

Ryan Hargreaves took 4-41 and Dan Outhart 3-36 as the visitors posted 213-9, Andy Raw adding 30 and Kieran Noble 34 in support of Thompson.

Opener Tom Pratt and Tom Milburn, with 26 apiece, wer the only batsmen to get a start as Staxton were dismissed for 124, Raw capping a fine all-round day with 3-47.
