BECKETT LEAGUE: Cayton and Valley set the pace

Cayton and Forge Valley maintained their 100 per cent starts to the season with wins at Heslerton and Nawton Grange respectively in the Readers Scarborough Beckett Cricket League premier division.

The three-pronged attack of Cayton bowlers Tom Sixsmith, 3-6, Steve McAleese, 3-17, and Rhys Crowe, 2-2, sent the home side crashing to 72 all out in 33.1 overs.

Jake McAleese, 31no, and Micky Dennis, 39, saw Cayton safely to a maximum 20 points haul.

Forge Valley made harder work of their win, losing six wickets on the way to surpassing Grange’s 90 all out.

Adam Durrant’s plucky 49 was the only innings of note for the hosts as Jaymaine White’s 4-29 helped Forge take control.

James Greenlay’s 4-33 kept Grange in the game, with Andy Toal’s 27 proving to be crucial for the away side.

Staithes’ S Marsay struck a superb 99, allied to an unbeaten 42 from B Lewis as they eased to an eight-wicket win at Flixton 2nds.

Jack Walmsley and Leigh Franks had both hit 38 as the home side reached 162 all out batting first, Liam Lowery adding 35.

Paul Theaker took 4-40 and C Morrison 3-10 as Staithes tried to peg Flixton back.

Adam Morris was the all-round hero for division A leaders Seamer in their four-wicket win at home to Cloughton.

Adam and brother Matty took four wickets apiece as Seamer limited Cloughton to 119-8, former Scarborough FC manager Phil Chambers top-scoring with 43 and Chris Malthouse adding 26.

Adam Morris then saw Seamer home with an unbeaten 36, Anthony Jenkinson having earlier made 28.

Pete Milner was the pick of the Cloughton bowlers with 4-17.

Grindale claimed a thrilling six-run win against Brompton.

James Dawson, 46, and Mark Purvis, 28, led Grindale to 126 all out, Pete Webster and James Bruce taking three wickets each for Brompton.

Tom Pateman’s 58 looked to have put Brompton on the path to victory, but Ben Jackson’s 6-30 along with 3-25 by Ian Cousins saw Grindale snatch victory by a narrow margin.

Mulgraved edged to a threee-wicket win at Settrington.

C Stark struck 36 for the hosts, Andy Monkman unbeaten with 22 as they limped to 108-9.

Andy Thompson took 3-30 in 12 overs for the visitors, then Andy Cass’ unbeaten 40 guided Mulgrave home despite two wickets apiece from Eddie rounthwaite and Andy Storey.

Staxton 2nds cruised to a 166-run home win against Sewerby 2nds in division B.

Ryan Hargreaves and brother Adam shone with the bat for the hosts, Ryan hitting a superb 88 and Adam 41, while James Armstrong chipped in with 38.

Ten-man Sewerby were then dismissed for 57, J Grover taking 3-15.

Ebberston 2nds fought back well to earn a 13-run home division C win against Fylingdale 2nds.

Eddie Craggs, 33, and Ben Lockey, 22, helped the hosts reach 129 all out, Andy Husband claiming 4-13 for ‘Dales.

C Hurworth struck 31 in reply, but top bowling from Tom Holmes, 4-20, Sam Hardie, 4-18, and Lockey, 2-4, saw them slip to 116 all out.

Seamer 2nds won by 63 runs at Muston.

Craig Baker hammered 58 and Phil Metcalfe 49 as the visitors set 200-6, spinner Matthew Kings bagging 3-53.

Phil Robson’s 49 gave the hosts hope, but Steve Winwood’s 5-31 rolled over the hosts, who sank to 137 all out.

Great Habton eased to an eight-wicket win at home to Heslerton 2nds.

Z Khan and Tim Richardson took three wickets apiece as Heslerton were dismissed for 87.
