Players, coaches and parents at Bridlington Rugby Club last weekend.

Youngsters aged between six and 16 years old took part in matches and training sessions throughout the day.

Bridlington Rugby Club fielded four teams in the matrix - under 7s, under 8s, under 10s and under 11s - and followed the matrix matches with an under 16s fixture against Thirsk.

Jon Rowbottom, Bridlington’s director of junior rugby, said: “It was fantastic to see a packed Dukes Park with kids of all ages having a thoroughly enjoyable Sunday morning.

“The club’s youth development officer, Jack Bell, assisted by Andy Kempton and the other coaches and volunteers that provide their time and energy, have done a great job getting so many youngster down to the club.”

Bridlington Rugby Club is currently going through a three-year plan, and in 2015 many essential repairs and upgrades to the existing clubhouse and facilities were carried out.

The current aim of the board of directors is to build four new changing rooms and refurbish the existing ones by 2017.

Plans are well underway and it is hoped that construction at the Dukes Park base will start in June this year.

Some of the funds have been secured and some pledged, but further support is always welcome.
