Cloughton 2nds hammer Snainton to boost promotion hopes

Cloughton 2nds kept their Beckett League Division Three promotion hopes on track with a 141-run win at leaders Snainton.

Scott Wardman smashed 78 not out on his debut and Danny Jenkinson 70 as the visitors racked up 320 all out in 42.3 overs, Liam Salt hitting 36 and Mark Pryce 33.

Pryce then took 3-65 as Snainton were dismissed for 179 despite fine efforts from Leigh Watson (46), Matt Davies (39) and Mike Kipling (31).

Luke Spenceley's unbeaten 100 from just 63 balls eased Mulgrave 2nds to a six-wicket home win against Muston.

Spenceley smashed 13 fours and four sixes in his excellent century as the home side made a winning 174-4 from 27.2 overs.

Pace bowlers Cam Fox and Dom Ingham took three wickets apiece as Muston posted 173-8, veteran David Meer making 58 and Rikki Lawrence 30.

A maiden century from James Dunn failed to save Nawton Grange 2nds from defeat in a high-scoring contest at nine-man Heslerton 2nds.

Dunn smacked 103 and Ben Stamp 41 as Grange posted 232-7, John Lay taking 2-58 and Jake Sarup 2-41.

Rob Green batted superbly for Heslerton, but fell agonisingly short of his century on 97, while Tony Watson added 40, Lay 28 not out and Sarup 31 as the home side made it home with four balls and five wickets to spare, despite 3-50 from Darren Smith.

Ravenscar coasted to an eight-wicket home win against a weakened Forge Valley 2nds team thanks to siblings Daisy and Luke Stokoe.

Daisy, 14, took 3-8 and Freddie Barker 3-12 as the visitors battled to 82 all out from 44.3 overs, George Collingworth hammering a swift 23 early on for Valley.

Then Daisy's older brother Luke hit 41 and skipper Shaun Bayes 19 not out to steer Ravenscar home with almost 30 overs and eight wickets to spare.

Flixton 3rds earned a 76-run home win against Flamborough.

Jack Stephenson hit 47 not out, Pete Hill 47, John Sowden 43 and Tony Rudeforth 26 as the hosts racked up 243-9, Ben Traves scooping 3-24.

Boro then only made it to 167 all out in reply Jack Newby hitting 49 and Callum Hatton taking 3-35.

Fylingdales kept their Division Two promotion hopes on track with a 58-run win in a low-scoring contest at home to Kirkbymoorside.

The Moorsiders must have felt they had the upper hand after skittling the hosts for 127, Jamie Harper taking 6-34.

But Kirkby then collapsed to 69 all out as Harry Purves snatched 3-36, J Manson top-scoring with 29.

Wold Newton remain in contention after their seven-wicket win at Cayton 2nds.

Hari Haran Gunasekaran snapped up 4-12 and Charles Gray 4-23 for Newton, while Paul Pennock struck 36 for the hosts and Simon Glave 27.

David Southwell's 40, along with 29 by Karl Ridsdale and 25 from Gray secured victory from 34 overs, Glave taking 2-23.

It was a tough weekend for Cayton 2nds as they lost out to leaders Bridlington 2nds on Sunday in a match switched to Dukes Park.

Brid posted a massive 290-4, Ben Ibson striking a magnificent unbeaten 76, while Steve Lount weighed in with 52 and Matty Clay 50, as well as 43 not out from Ben Jackson and 43 from Luke Dixon.

Veterans John Crowe (41) and Simon Glave (37) did their best for Cayton, but the visitors were all out for 166, Callum Battams taking 3-33 and Jackson 2-38 for the pacesetters.

Pickering 3rds edged a four-wicket in a game dominated by bowlers at Ebberston 2nds.

George Hodgson claimed a superb haul of 5-27 and veteran spinner Tony Evans 4-11 as the Pikes skittled Ebberston for just 45, Paul Lockey top-scoring with 18.

George Baldwin's 12 proved vital in reply as his side crept home for the loss of six wickets mainly due to an outstanding spell of spin bowling from George Hardie (5-20).

Sewerby 2nds won by three wickets at home to Wykeham 2nds.

Pete Shepherdson hit 43 for the visitors while his brother Andy added 33 as they posted 150-9, P Davies taking 3-26 and Ash Porter 4-26.

Robin Coates continued his fine form with 40, while Simon Porter added 43 but it was an unbeaten 34 from youngster Isaac Coates that steered the clifftop club home, despite a superb spell of 5-31 from Ian Thompson.

Filey 2nds' stroll to the Division Four East title continued apace as Dave Pooley smacked a century in his side's six-wicket home win against Scarborough 3rds.

Tom Pratt hammered 64, David Thomas 37 and Andrew Spenceley 35 as Scarborough posted 195-5, but veterans Pooley (100) and Mick Blyth (42) made sure of another straightforward win for the Clarence Drive team.

Filey's title push was helped by a shock loss for second-placed Wold Newton 2nds at home to a fast-improving Scarborough Rugby Club.

Jack Heslehurst hit 31, Pete Auty 32 and Philip Heslehurst 30 not out as Newton posted 153-8.

Kiwi all-rounder Matty Jones (43) and Aussie ace James Perrett (42no) steered the visitors to a six-wicket win.

Craig Bone shone with bat and ball as Scalby 3rds eased to a 101-run win at home to Cayton 3rds.

Bone top-scored with 40 not out, while Nathan Barber hit 38 and Freddie Schmuck 32 as Scalby posted 180-7, Callum Seastron taking 3-41.

Only Ian Wright, with 24, shone in reply for Cayton as spinner Bone bagged 3-16 and veteran Adrian Hollingsworth 3-10, Cayton slumping to 79 all out.

Ganton 2nds continue to look firm favourites for the Division Four West title after their five-wicket home win against Thornton Dale 2nds.

Paul Waring struck 64 as Dale were dismissed for 157, Freddie Lockwood claiming an excellent 5-31.

Lockwood also hit 26 in reply, while Joel Sarup smashed 44, Phil Elliott 44 not out and Anthony Allison 32 as Ganton claimed victory.

Anosh George bagged a brilliant 6-23 as Brompton 2nds won by five wickets at home to Sherburn 2nds.

Ash Oldroyd hit a defiant 41 not out as Sherburn were skittled for 107 in just 22.3 overs.

Steve Suggitt hit 26 and son Chris 23 as Brompton secured victory with five wickets and 13.1 overs to spare.

Malton & Old Malton 4ths claimed a 78-run win at Pickering 4ths.

Ethan Smith hit 35, Andrew Mann 29 and M Farrow 26 as Malton posted 187 all out, Simon Boyes bagging 3-10.

Jordan Newton struck 56 in reply, but it was in vain as the Pikes slipped to 109 all out, T Allen taking 3-27 and Farrow 2-10.
