Scarborough CC chairman Bill Mustoe hopes that a shift in the County Championship diary will result in an attendance boost for Yorkshire v Worcestershire next week.
Unbeaten Yorkshire head into the clash starting on Sunday in confident mood as they are top of the Division One table with games in hand on their nearest rivals Middlesex and Durham.
Tickets for Yorkshire’s crunch LVCC County Championship Division One clash against struggling Worcestershire will be available via the turnstiles at North Marine Road. Tickets are priced at £16, with over-65s, under-16s and Club Yorkshire members getting in for just £10.
With the game starting on a Sunday and with the clash coinciding with the schools breaking up for their summer holidays, Mustoe is hoping for a bumper crowd down at North Marine Road.
He said: “I think it’s a great thing (moving games to start on a Sunday, it’s much better than last year.
“We are hoping that with the schools breaking up as well that we will see some big crowds for the Worcestershire game.”
Mustoe is expecting award-winning groundsman John Dodds to produce a typically quick and bouncy wicket for the clash.
He added: “The pitch will no doubt be quick as per usual here at Scarborough, we produce one of the best pitches in the the country at North Marine Road.
“The outfield looks absolutely fantastic, the ground really is a mecca of cricket.”
Mustoe is also hoping that with the spotlight on the Ashes campaign at present, alongside the success of England’s Yorkshire contingent, that cricket is at the forefront of people’s minds.
“As the saying goes, a strong Yorkshire results in a strong England.
“The Yorkshire lads are performing for England and the club is in a great place.
“Hopefully people will be more keen to come out and support the side with all the cricket in the news and on the TV at the moment.
“There will still be some big names on show and Yorkshire are in form too, so we’re hoping for a home win.
“Everyone at Scarborough is looking forward to the game, we’re excited.”
