As 2013 draws to a close, it is again time to celebrate the sporting achievements of Bridlington people during the past 12 months.

Today, we officially launch the third Bridlington Free Press Sports Awards, and we need readers to send in their nominations.

The awards evening will take place at Bridlington Rugby Club on Friday, March 7, and the event will once again by generously sponsored by West BS. A number of other local businesses have also pledged their support by agreeing to sponsor a category.

Free Press sports editor John Edwards said: “Who have been the outstanding achievers in Bridlington during 2013? We want to know about players, teams, coaches and volunteers who deserve recognition for what they have done this year.

“Without your nominations, we can’t consider them, so we would love to hear ideas from all our local clubs.

“Anyone can nominate, and we really hope we will hear from a wide cross section of sports.

“Once again, winners will be decided by a judging panel and not on the number of votes an individual or team receives.

“The previous two evenings have proved what a wonderful sporting community we have in the Bridlington area.”

Because of the imminent closure of the Free Press office, nominations will only be accepted by email this year.

Send your nominations to with your contact details and information about who you are nominating for which award and why.
