I am writing to the residents of Bridlington on behalf of The Poppy Appeal Bridlington as the Honorary Poppy Appeal Organiser.
Each year, from late October until 11 November, some 30,000 Legion volunteers take to the streets with poppies and collecting boxes, raising millions of pounds for the Poppy Appeal.
The money collected at this time, and from numerous other fundraising activities throughout the year, goes to providing help and support to serving and ex-Service men and women and their dependants.
In 2014, Bridlington raised more than £24,000 and hopes to improve this in 2015.
The official Poppy Appeal 2015 launch ceremony will take place in The Promenades Shopping Centre at 11am on Saturday 24 October.
Without volunteer collectors out there on the streets and without honorary Poppy Appeal Organisers planning the collections this great cause would grind to a halt, and we urgently need to recruit more people, as many of our current volunteers are retiring due to age.
Add to this the ever increasing demand on the Legion’s services and you can see we need help more than ever.
The collections will take place in the Promenades Shopping Centre and Morrison’s Supermarket from 24 October through to Armistice Day -–Wednesday 11 November; Tesco Supermarket from 1 to 11 November, and around town from Sunday 1 November.
We always need new volunteers to assist with Poppy Appeal collecting in the Bridlington area.
Please ask anyone interested to contact either myself Roy Smith (Honorary Poppy Appeal Organiser) firstname.lastname@example.org or Martin Barmby (Deputy) email@example.com to get involved.
