Bridlington’s new bridge, which will carry vehicles over the Gypsey Race, linking Beck Hill and Hilderthorpe Road, should be open next month.

Cllr Symon Fraser, cabinet portfolio holder for strategic asset management, housing and environment at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The Beck Hill Bridge element of the Bridlington Integrated Transport Plan Phase 2 is progressing well and has seen the council’s contractor, PBS Construction, install the foundations and steel structure as well as the concrete abutments and parapet and wing walls.

“Drainage and electrical works have also been completed.

“Over the coming weeks, the contractor will be working on the embankments on both sides of the bridge and constructing the carriageway, including the tie-ins with Hilderthorpe Road and Beck Hill, before fitting fencing and guard rails.

“Once this is finished, the council anticipates that the bridge will open to traffic and pedestrians in July.”
A council spokesman said the length of pile foundations is 500m or 1,640 feet – the same as having the BT Tower stood on top of the Eiffel Tower.
