A Met Office spokesperson said: "It will be largely fine during this period, with some hazy sunny spells, although there is a chance of some coastal fog at times over the weekend and perhaps isolated thundery showers."

Forecasters predicted the record for the hottest day of the year (currently 19.2C, or 66.6F) will be bettered at least once before the end of the week.

Calum MacColl, from the Met Office, said: “Today was an absolutely stunning day, reaching 19C in Gravesend, and the conditions for most of the country were consistent with summer.
