TWO local historians have come together to produce a book dedicated to Bridlington’s war heroes.
Local World War One researcher Chris Bonnett has been joined by writer Mike Wilson to publish Great War Heroes Of Bridlington.
Chris’ years of hunting down information about the men on the town’s war memorial have resulted in a 364-page book relating the lives and deaths of soldiers, sailors and airmen of the town who died in that conflict.
Two of Chris’ great uncles and Mike’s grandfather are named on the memorial, the point at which the book started, but all 334 men now have a page in its pages.
In addition there are photographs and illustrations showing the conditions in the trenches which local men had to endure.
Chris and Mike are now asking for even more information, especially photographs.
Mike said: “We would be really interested in hearing from anyone in the town who has a a relative named on the war memorial.
“We would also like to hearfrom any families who have any mementoes from a fallen soldier or sailor.
“We would both like to include all available material in the book, but must finalise it very soon so it can be prepared for the printer.”
The book will be launched at Bridlington Central Library on Friday, July 1.
Sponsors may place a pre-publication order at £10, and their names will appear as subscribers. The publication price will be £11.99.
Interest in the book has already come from Belgium and other parts of the UK, and anyone with memories or momentoes can contact Chris on 401729, Mike on 609228, or email them on firstname.lastname@example.org.
