Robin Tait, who wrote the song back in the 1980s, said: “We had a fantastic day with over 100 people on stage singing their hearts out.

“Lots of them brought their own children with them and our youngest member was just 25 days old.

“I saw all sorts of people I hadn’t seen for the best part of 30 years. They had all matured beautifully, like fine wines”

One of the guests was Mike Ashford, the former New Pasture Lane School headteacher, who came up with the idea which resulted in the song being written.

Robin said: “The idea of getting all the schools together to do a schools performance as part of Bridlington Arts Festival was Mike’s.

“He co-ordinated it all and got headteachers to come to meetings, so it was all down to him.”

The song has not laid dormant over the past 30 years. After leaving Bridlington for a school in the south of England, Mike adopted it as his new’s school’s anthem and made Children Are The Future its motto.
