Around 20 talented youngsters ventured out on a wet day to audition for the role of Annie in Spotlight Theatre’s spring production of the popular family musical.
The bar area of the West Street volunteer-run theatre was turned into a ‘green room’ for the afternoon and served cold drinks and biscuits to the girls in between the singing, dancing and acting sessions.
The two girls chosen to play Annie were Molly Leck aged 10 and Ellie Crosby aged 13.
Director Pauline Pope was delighted with the turnout.
She said: “We wanted to be able to cast each character twice so that we could share the workload and avoid the girls getting too tired.
“The number attending has enabled us to create a Red Team and Blue Team and they’ll perform on alternate nights.
“There’s no doubt that this show hangs on having a great Annie – and we’ve got two.”
Meanwhile, Stacey Hunt, who played Annie in the theatre’s first production of the musical in 2004, stopped off at the West Street venue while visiting her home town.
She said: “Annie is all about confidence. She’s a sassy little girl – even a bit bolshy at times.”
Stacey is currently the lead vocalist with the Headliners Theatre Company that performs on P&O cruise ships.
Annie runs from 2-7 May at The Spotlight Theatre, West Street, Bridlington. Visit www.spotlighttheatrebrid.co.uk for booking details.
