Twins celebrate 90th birthday at Sewerby Grange

Twin sisters celebrated turning “90 years young” at a birthday party filled with family and friends.

Mary Smith and Sylvia Milner, of Bridlington, enjoyed a party and special birthday cake at Sewerby Grange Hotel on Saturday 15 March.

Sylvia’s daughter, Sally Labib, who lives in Stourbidge, said: “I said to my mum, you are 90 years young because she is extremely independent. They both still live on their own and they look amazing. They have both got a very strong faith, they are both very positive people and they have got an extremely loving family.”

Mary, who has dedicated her life to looking after her family, including children Christopher and Elizabeth, lives in West Street and enjoys reading, painting and drawing. Former nurse Sylvia spent over 15 years working at the Alfred Bean hospital in Driffield and has three children: Andrew, Sally and Jane. She lives in Cardigan Road, Bridlington and is very involved with the church and loves singing in the choir.

The twins turned 90 on Wednesday 12 March.

Sally, 53, said the twins are “very close” and only live 10 minutes away from each other, enabling them to regularly meet up.

“Mary is a sweet, demure, kind lady and mum is bubbly and loves meeting new people,” said Sally, who helped organise the birthday bash.

“I just hope that they realise they have both had 90 wonderful years and they have given us absolute pearls of wisdom.”

Over 35 family members from across the country toasted the milestone birthday with champagne reception.
