Tributes to outgoing East Riding of Yorkshire Council director

Alison Michalska, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s director of CFAS, leaves the authority next week (November 3) to take up the post of corporate director for children and adults with Nottingham City Council.

Nigel Pearson, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s chief executive, paid a glowing tribute to Mrs Michalska’s success in improving services in the county.

He said: “She has done a first class job, driving forward improvements in services for children, families and adults and improving their outcomes. Importantly, she has also built on working relationships with our partners, including the NHS, police and the voluntary community sector.

“She will be greatly missed, but equally it has been good to have her with us for these last six years and we wish her well in the future.”

Mrs Michalska said she is proud to have been able to oversee some tremendous successes with adult services and disability projects, as well as important work in supporting vulnerable children.

“I am also very proud that our schools have recently gained their best ever results at all key stages,” she said.

“There is still more to do to improve our schools in the eyes of Ofsted, but our local authority schools and academies are delivering excellent outcomes for children.”

Mrs Michalska added: “I am looking forward to the challenge of my new job, but I am leaving behind a fabulous team at the East Riding and wish them continued success.”

Mrs Michalska will be succeeded by Kevin Hall, who will be the East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s new director of children, families and schools.

Mr Hall, who takes up his post in December, is moving from the City of York Council, where he is currently interim director of children’s services, education and skills. He was previously assistant director for 10 years.

He said: “I am delighted to be joining the East Riding in December.

“It is a privilege to be following Alison Michalska in this role, and I look forward to working with colleagues to ensure that children and young people in the county get the best possible start in life.”

Following an internal restructure, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s adult services will be moved into the directorate of corporate strategy and commissioning, which is headed by interim director John Skidmore.
