Travellers have set up camp on council land after allegedly cutting off a combination lock and replacing it with their own.
Three caravans and three vehicles arrived at Carnaby Industrial Estate over the weekend, close to Dawn Meats abattoir.
The land is owned by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, but the travellers are allegedly blocking a gate leading to fields owned by Burton Agnes Hall.
The estate is concerned that farmers will not be able to access the land over the coming days.
A council official said: "Apparently, the travellers have cut off a combination lock which secures the double gates and have replaces it with their own."
However, police have advised Burton Agnes Hall not to remove the lock, "as they might be accused of criminal damage".
The council have requested checks be carried out by their Gypsey Liason Officer and for authorisation to remove the travellers.
