Work starts later this week on the street which has been branded the worst road surface in Bridlington.

Investigations at Bempton Lane have identified a problem with the foundation layers, which require replacing. Starting on Thursday, the work will take 11 weeks and cost £460,000.

The carriageway will be resurfaced with a new quiet road surface with markings. Although the road will not be closed, drivers have been told to expect delays as there will be temporary traffic lights between 9am and 5pm on Monday to Friday.

Cllr Richard Burton said: “I’m very, very pleased because we have waited a long time for this and I appreciate that residents have had issues with potholes and the state of the road.

“This investment is very welcome. It will benefit the people who live around Bempton Lane, the people from Bempton and Buckton who use it to get into Bridlington and tourists coming to the RSPB centre - this road is used in so many different ways.”

His colleague Cllr Richard Harrap added: “I very much welcome that this work is going to be done.

“There has been a huge demand for road repairs but we have been able to obtain extra funding which enables us to move forward.”

The footways will be resurfaced after the main carriageway works have been completed later in the financial year.

There will also be some kerb installation works to the accesses to the properties along the road.
