Nobody saw her stumble into the water and she was left clinging to rocks for an hour-and-a-half until Steve Cowan and Shaun Hayes, who were working in the area, spotted her clinging to rocks.
Dee said she had ditched her backpack but was concerned about the currents at high tide.
Steve called coastguards and the local lifeboat crew rescued her but her condition deteriorated and she was transferred to a critical care unit at Cramlington. However, after five days in hospital she has made a good recovery .
Dee said she and her family thanked ‘wholeheartedly’ Steve and Shaun, the emergency services and the NHS staff.
